CONFERENCE ON TECHNICAL EDUCATION AND

SKILL DEVELOPMENT (CTESD)

February 23rd & 24th, 2018 (Friday & Saturday)

India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world and according to the United Nations Report, 356 million youth are in the age group of 10-24 years which constitute 28% youth of the country’s population and by 2020, India will become the world’s youngest country with 64 percent of its population in the working age group, says a report in The Hindu. This demography will be actively looking for employment, and can potentially drive global demands. To meet the global requirements, technical education plays a vital role in providing the technical human resource. This encouraged many institutes to establish and meet this huge demand. To sustain in the competition, institutes need to constantly evolve themselves to understand the industry requirements and implement the teaching-learning process as per the need.

According to the data reported in Hindustan Times on July 19, 2017, only 66% landed a job offer in 2016-17. Out of 9,104 student in 17 IITs who applied this year, only 6,013 got jobs. Similarly, job offers made by engineering and technology firms dipped by 7%. It has also been observed that the placement scenario is increasingly changing with time and students are showing interest in R&D and analytical companies, as they provide better opportunities for career advancement and exit options. It has also been seen that most of the analytical jobs are being offered by financial services firms, whose capacity has increased in recent years.

Looking into these challenges, Government has taken many initiatives for employment generation for the young population. Thakur College of Engineering and Technology (TCET) believes in effective implementation of innovative and best practices by providing platforms to all stakeholders. Keeping this in mind, TCET’s Training & Placement (T&P) Cell is organizing 2nd Conference on Technical Education and Skill Development (CTESD-2018) to identify and discuss the industry required skills and meet the local and global requirements.
